With tourism and agriculture acting as two of the leading industries in Vermont's infrastructure, ensuring quality foods alongside various outlets for consumers is crucial. As the state continues to take nation-leading strides in the Farm to Table movement, its goal is to provide easy access to healthy/locally sourced foods while providing jobs for residents statewide. These extraordinary efforts remain a top priority. While the local dining industry in Vermont does not always receive the recognition it deserves, my goal is to shed some light on the ever-growing industry that keeps our communities fueled and functioning.

Intro to Northern Vermont’s dining:

As someone who has spent time in and out of Vermont’s food scene over the years, from working at resort restaurants to managing a family-owned, grassroots operation. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working alongside some great minds in the industry. One which relies significantly on community efforts, seasonal traffic, and adapting to the seasons’ demands to stay relevant and successful. Some of our outlets offer year-round dining, while others operate during specific times of the year. Each is unique on its own and on a similar mission, to serve quality food for all to enjoy. Below, we will explore our various dining options and the ideal times to check them out.

On Vs Off Resort:

There are many great dining options on and off our local ski resorts. Depending on the environment, practicality, and time of the year will, these options vary. You’ll indeed find the right spot for the day’s desires.

Off Resort:

If you’re someone like myself who enjoys exploring off the beaten path and searching for a less crowded, more authentic local experience. Off-resort dining might suit you best. With more intimate dining comes a more personal experience. Meeting locals who can inform you of the surrounding areas and other nearby hotspots comes naturally in this environment. Also, there are many varying options around each corner. Food trucks, country stores, delis, and snack shacks are open to enjoy in the warmer seasons. Outdoor seating, usually paired with great views, is an ideal option for outdoor lovers come summertime. In the winter, find a cozy inn or pub, often featuring live music, nightly specials, and a warm environment to lounge in.

On resort options:

Craving more of an après-ski scene? Or looking for more convenience and less driving? Resort dining is a safe bet. With many options in one area, you can easily find what you’re looking for. Fine dining, fun bars, pizza shops, cafeterias, and entertaining outdoor venues. All with food and beverages readily available within a stone’s throw of each other.
